What are your rocks, pebbles & sand?

At the beginning of 2016, I set myself a goal to help 100,000 black women to eat for health, think for happiness and live in harmony, which is what I call ‘Becoming Naturally You’ by 2020.

So every week, my goal is to share videos, articles, podcasts, memes, events, books, online course, coaching programs and more, all focused on helping you do those 3 things.

But I’m very aware of ONE thing that can make ‘Becoming Naturally You’ very challenging, which is….

Time management (or lack of) and prioritising!

We all have the same number of hours in a day and most of us have big goals and dreams we want to achieve.

Some of us WILL successfully achieve everything we plan to achieve, sometimes before we even planned to. Our lives can change in record time, transforming our realities daily.

But others will barely manage to achieve one goal in a decade.

The difference between the two isn’t always to do with the normal factors, like money, support, status, location, education etc.

VERY often, the only real difference is how we spend our time.

More importantly, it’s the difference between what we choose to spend our time on and whether it’s a priority and necessary to our growth or not.

So in today’s video, i’m sharing with you a famous time management tool called the ‘Rocks, Pebbles, Sand’ story, which I work through with all my private clients, to help them focus on progress in their lives.

In order for you to have the time to focus on eating for health, thinking for happiness and living in harmony, it’s time to put this simple tool into action by identify the rocks, pebbles & sand in your life and focusing on the rocks and getting rid of the sand.

Here’s another short animated video sharing the same story you can check out too.

Action Time!!!!

  1. Get a piece of paper and a pen
  2. Write ‘My Life’ at the top, then make three columns going down the page, with the headings ‘Rocks’, ‘Pebbles’ & ‘Sand’ at the top.
  3. Identify all the rocks – big important things, pebbles – less important but necessary things, that don’t always need to be done by you or take up all your time and the sand – unimportant stuff that doesn’t need to be in your life at all.
  4. Take a moment to look at the way you spend your time now. Do you focus on the rocks as a priority daily or is it so full of pebbles and sand that there’s no time left for rocks?
  5. Now you’ve identified the things that are most important in your life, and looked at the way you currently spend your time, plan the rest of next week with the rocks as a priority.

How does it work

If you a rock is exercise and sand is social media, plan next week so that when you wake up, instead of checking Instagram and Facebook, you do 10 mins of yoga stretches or 20 squats, sit ups and press ups.

If a rock in your life is learning about finance and sand is online games, plan to spend 20mins a day checking out videos on YouTube on financial literacy, financial freedom, cryptocurrency, savings & investments, wealth management and more.

If rocks are your children and sand eating junk food when you’re not even hungry, next time you recognise you’re reaching for junk food when you’t not even hunger, go and hang out with your children instead, read them a story, ask them to come play cards with you, have a chat about your next big family holiday, do their hair, go for a walk to the shops with them, have a rock, paper, scissors competition, anything, just focus on your rocks 🙂

I hope you enjoy the videos and make sure you identify your rocks pebble and sand and if you have other tips that can help us save time or manage it better, please share in the comments below
